     ARMA Education

ARMA International’s website itself constitutes a very good training resource, with discussions on best practices, e-discovery, electronic Records Management, fundamentals of RIM, global issues, security and other hot topics in our industry.  Of particular note is ARMA’s establishment of the Generally Accepted Recordkeeping Principles ® (The Principles).

Formal educational opportunities include online courses, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

The Essentials of RIM Certificate is offered by ARMA International as entry-level, online training for people whose jobs involve records.  The training consists of 10 courses from ARMA International’s courses.  The Certificate does not require continuing education, though ARMA International recommends training to stay up-to-date on the latest developments in RIM.

ARMA draws a sharp distinction between the Certificate and the Certification, as exemplified by the Essentials training above and the CRM certification described below.  While the Essentials certificate demonstrates a basic understanding of the fundamentals of RIM, the CRM is the premier option.

The CRM, which is certified by the Institute of Certified Records Managers (ICRM) is designed for manager-level positions and requires experience as well as training.  In addition, continuing education is required.  Additional details about RIM certification, along with a list of study materials, are available at the ICRM Web site: www.icrm.org.
